WWWWWW #87 - X-Men Chicken Wings

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

X-Men | Chicken Wing

Last week I went to see Logan, and it was awesome.

If you haven't seen it, it is excellent. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are at the top of their games and new comer Dafne Keen keeps her own. Action galore, humour and Johnny Cash. I did have some timeline issues with the movie, but suffice it to say, if you like X-Men, go see this.

But it got me thinking; while there are no chicken wings in this movie, are there chicken wings in the X-Men universe? Well it turns out there is. In fact, there is a character called Chicken Wings.

He only exists in one comic, X-Factor#51 (February, 1990) and, well he dies. We don't know much about him other than he is a Morlock, and he kinda looks like a bird.

What are his powers? We don't know - we don`t really know much about him. He's a pretty pathetic individual who is hunted down by Sabretooth and first has his arm/wing ripped off, and then later is killed.

Real Name:
Occupation: N/A
Birth Place: N/A
Identity: Public
Aliases: N/A
Relatives: N/A
Group Affiliation: Morlocks
Base of Operations: N/A
Origin: Mutant
First Appearance
Gender: N/A
Height: N/A
Weight: N/A
Eyes: N/A
Hair: N/A
Education: N/A
Universe: Earth-616

Ok so unless you are a hardcore X-Men fan, you`ve never heard of him, and you are not going to find an action figure of Chicken Wings. Oh wait . . .

You can get a custom made action figure of Chicken Wings.

So not the coolest X-Man, but hey, we live in a wacky world. I like chicken wings, I like X-Men, but I don`t love Chicken Wings. Here`s the old cartoon intro and a Logan trailer to make up for it:

WWWWWW #86 - International Women's Day & Chicken Wings

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

It's March 8th 2017,  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN's DAY!!!

"International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity."

I want to write something poignant, motivational and witty about this topic, but really it's simple: women are awesome.

I can't say it enough and I know I am thankful for all the women in my life. So to celebrate today and in conjuncture with WWWWWW we are taking a look at 3 women who have contributed to Chicken Wing Culture in some way or another:

#3 Rhonda Rousey

Rousey is an Olympic medal winner, UFC mixed martial artist and movie actress who is known for being one tough lady. She's been ranked as both the most "dominant" active athlete and "Best Female Athlete Ever."  She also loves chicken wings and loves talking about them. I don't think another athlete has been so open and documented about their love of chicken wings!

#2 Sonya Thomas, The Black Widow

Sonya Thomas is a competitive eater, know as both "The Black Widow" and "The Leader of the 4 Horseman of the Apocolypse" who has broken over 39 world records. This 98 lb woman from South Korea hit the world by storm by eating more and eating faster than all of her competitors. Her fame came from eating chicken wings, and in 2011 at the National Buffalo Wing Festival she beat her own record and ate 183 wings in 12 minutes!

#1 Teressa Bellissimo

The mother of the Buffalo Wing. Without her, the city of Buffalo would be obscure, Superbowls would only serve ok foods, and there would be no Lord of the Wings. In 1964 on March 4th (only a few days ago!) Bellissimo was just trying to feed her son's hungry friends who came to visit at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY.  She deep fried some chicken usually destined for the stock pot, whipped up a hot sauce, and the rest is history.

BONUS: Doreen Brown

My Grandmother and matriarch of the family. This is her eating wings, not knowing I was taking a photo of her. She's an amazing cook and baker, and influenced my dad in his cooking, who influenced me to be a good cook. Thanks Gramma!

BONUS #2: How to Eat Chicken Wings Like a Lady

I'd love to hear more about women and chicken wings - is there a wing loving woman that inspires you? Let me know in the comments, e-mail or twitter!

WWWWWW #85 - Charlie Brown Demonstrates the Art of Balancing a Buffalo Chicken Wing on One's Head

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

CRATED | artist Ricko

Crated is a website where artists, creators and developers display their art to be sold to you. Their mission statement:

"Our goal is to be remarkable. Think big. Really big. Then think bigger."

What brought me to Crated was artist Ricko. There's no info on him, but here is his art:

This is an action figure of Charlie Brown balancing a chicken wing on his head. It's called "Charlie Brown Demonstrates the Art of Balancing a Buffalo Chicken Wing on One's Head." For $101 USD this can be yours. I don't know the significance or the story behind it . . .

Ricko (who has no bio data) seems to enjoy the juxtaposition of food and objects. I personally like the bears, alligators and pickles. But Charlie Brown is my personal preference.

Have you used Crated before? What's your favourite piece from Ricko? Why is Charlie Brown balancing a chicken wing on his head?!?!?!

WWWWWW #84 Galaxy Multi Rides ~ Mechanical Rodeo Buffalo Chicken Wing

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

Galaxy Multi Rides | Game Rental Company

Have you ever been on a mechanical bull? You know, a fake bull (or just a saddle) often found in rodeo/country western bars that you ride and it bucks, and the person who can stay on the longest before it throws you off wins. Well there`s a rental company that has a unique assortment.

Galaxy Multi Rides rents out a bunch of different mechanical bull rides, or just rides in general. Inflatable obstacle courses, mazes and other Wipeout like games. This family based company is based in Florida, and England. They have 40 different rides, its crazy. And they have one built just for me:

A Buffalo Chicken Mechanical Rodeo ride. That`s right, climb onto a drummette and hang on for dear life.

"We have made some strange rides in our years of manufacturing multi rides, but a really unique one is the Buffalo Chicken Wing.
The wing is textured and painted to look like it is dripping in buffalo sauce and comes complete with a soft Sofolex knuckle (like the head of the wing) for safety.
To complete this hot and spicy ride, we printed a cover sheet for the inflatable with a pile of buffalo chicken wings.
As with all of our multi ride attachments, the Mechanical Rodeo Buffalo Chicken Wing is quick and easy to attach to the electric motion base, offering you the ability to turn your multi ride into a total entertainment system."

Sounds like fun!

Oh, and if chicken wings aren't your thing, you can ride a Taco Bell sauce packet.

WWWWWW #83 - Waukee Community School District & Chicken Wing Dissection

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

Waukee Community School District - Chicken Wing Dissection

We all love eating wings, I mean, that's why your on my blog right? But did you know chicken wings could be educational too?

Well down in Iowa USA the Waukee Community School District's website highlighted South Middle School's 7th Grade science teacher Samantha Kuehl's great science project: chicken wing dissection.

Some kids were totally into it, others renounced eating wings forever [good, more wings for the rest of us!]

I think this is a great way to not only learn more about biology and how parts work, but also connect us to our food. We continue to be distanced from real food to over processed and packaged animals. If you are a meat eater like me, we need to embrace that our food had a face and is raw and isn't just a final product on a plate.

WWWWWW #82 - Cooking with Your Coffee Maker - Super Bowl Sunday Wings

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

Alton Brown is strongly against 'unitaskers'; kitchen gadgets that only have one use in the kitchen and take up valuable real estate in the drawer. Some people take that philosophy to the next level. That would be the writer at Cooking With Your Coffee Maker.

The actual goal for this blog was more about helping a nephew in the army:

"The idea of Cooking With Your Coffee Maker started with one of our nephews complaining that the he preferred MRE’s to the food in the mess hall in Afghanistan.
Since a coffee maker was the one appliance that all the soldiers have, I began to wonder if the water from a coffee maker would get hot enough to make instant oatmeal. You see I don’t own a coffee maker because we are not coffee drinkers in my house, so I went out and bought my first coffee maker."

So, what kind of recipes can you make in a coffee maker? People have heard about ramen and boiled eggs, but can you go beyond that?

Cupcakes? Sure why not!

Corn dogs? Apparently yes as well.

But we are all thinking ahead and wondering . . . you can't possibly do chicken wings in a coffee maker? Surely not . . .

... ok, they made Super Bowl Sunday Wings in the coffee maker. Did not see that one coming.

They didn't go much into details but it seems to involve 'simmering' the wings with a little water - then add chicken wing sauce.

I won't lie, this does not appeal to me because I can't imagine the wings getting crispy, but instead just getting mushy in sauce. But I haven't tried it, so who knows.

Have you made chicken wings in a coffee maker? Or something else unconventional?

WWWWWW #81 - Pokemon & Wings

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

Pokemon |

I do not play Pokemon. I have not watched the show. I have not played the card game. I have not played the video games. But there is no denying the phenomenon that has been Pokemon Go. It has only been out for like 2 weeks, but a day does not go by where I watch people stumble in the streets, run in packs, or sit at lunch and get some Pokemon. I watched a 40 year old man hold up a line at Costco as he tried to capture one on the conveyor at the check-out.

That being said, there is at least one thing that links chicken wings and Pokemon; the slogan. "Gotta Catch'em all!" - that's how I feel about chicken wings. But surely there's more of connection?

JessicaFreaxx | She's a young artist on Deviant Art and she created the above photo:

"I know this isn't art related, but I thought it was hilarious. I went out to get wings earlier today and one of them looked like charmander so I took a picture of it."
I think it's awesome.

Pokemon champions also like to eat wings:

xRazeOvation |  This Pokemon player was trying the hottest wings on the menu during the VGC Worlds event in 2014. He survived, but barely.

There are also a bunch of homemade Pokemon chicken wing cards:

My Pokemon Card |  A site dedicated to helping you create your own Pokemon Card. Look I even created my own:

Ha ha ha - I have no idea what any of that means, I just clicked on numbers.

So are you a Pokemonist? A Trainer? Are you engulfed with Pokemon Go AND eating wings?

WWWWWW #80 - Bigs Sunflower Seeds

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday

This Week:

Bigs Sunflower Seeds: "Do You Believe Life's Too Short To Not Go Bigs?"

I will admit, when I think of sunflower seeds, I don't think Buffalo wings. But Bigs does. Bigs is an American sunflower and pumpkin seed company with an 'x-treme' approach. You don't just buy and eat the seeds, you are part of a larger community:

"When you choose BIGS, you join a tribe. A clan of fun-loving seeders that share a common belief: YOU SHOULDN'T COMPROMISE ON FLAVOR. EVER."

So of course, they have a buffalo wing themed sunflower seed:

"When you’re whipping up a batch of wings for the big game, you know Frank’s® Redhot® Sauce is your only choice. At BIGS®, we agree. Frank’s spicy but flavorful Redhot Sauce makes every Buffalo Wing seed pack a powerful punch of heat. So go ahead and pop one (or twenty) in your mouth and feel the signature buffalo burn."

I haven't had them, so I can't comment. Have you? Do they taste like Buffalo Wings? Let me know!

WWWWWW #79 ~ Zazzle

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This week:

Zazzle: Online Retailer

Zazzle is an "online marketplace" for various products and designs. "At Zazzle, The Make Engine™, we believe that dreams should be indulged, ideas explored, and inner creators set free. Our mission is to give anyone, anywhere the power to make anything imaginable."

Oh ya? Can you make a chicken wing cell phone cover?

Ah, you can.

Ok that looks pretty tasty.

Oh you can do a rooster too eh?

Zazzle carries these Iphone covers in a variety of wings colours and styles and they range from about $40-$70, which seems steep from me. But then again, I don't have an Iphone.

Would you use one of these? Is that a fair price point? Should there be a Lord of the Wing phone cover?

WWWWWW #78 - The Rose of Jericho

World Wide Web Wacky Wing Wednesday. #lotwWWWWWW.
Exploring chicken wing culture on the internet every Wednesday.

This Week:

The Rose of Jericho: Voodoo, Hoodoo & Other Wonderful Things

Have you ever been eating chicken wings, and when you are done have a ton of bones leftover and your like, what can I do with those bones? Have you ever considered, fortune telling?

According to the Rose of Jericho, you can! To "cast the bones" or more accurately, sortilege, this is what you need to do:

"The sortilege method I'm going to be using here for demonstration purposes is very much a watered down version of the sortilege system I normally use and will only consist of 13 objects: 5 chicken bones, 4 coloured dice and 4 cowries.
But, its still workable and lots of fun if you want to give it a go.
You will need:
a wing bone, 2 leg bones, a broken wing bone and a rib bone all taken from a chicken. Red, green, white and black 6 sided spot dice. 4 cowrie shells"
Also, don't forget your fortune telling cards.

Check out ROJ's specific page "21 Card Gypsy Spread and Bone Casting: Part 2, Casting The Bones...." for more information on what to do, how to read the responses etc.

Now, if only I could use these to find out the next amazing wings I'm going to have . . .
