TUMS: Wing Slap Commercial

This just might be my new favourite commercial:

Awesome.

Funny side note: you don't often see a full wing shown in commercials.

MADTV "Vagicil Commercial"

Another exciting edition of the Chicken Wings on Screen!

I was just watching MAD TV (as in this is post is only delayed by about 10 minutes) and heard the word's "Chicken Wings" several times. That's when I knew it was time for another CWOS post!

The skit involves Frank Caliendo in his recurring character/impersonation of John Madden, who is usually eating something.

This particular skit is about John endorsing Vagicil, because they are paying him in chicken wings"

QUOTE #1

JOHN:

"Second of all, they paid me in chicken wings. And third of all, there is no
third of all; once I heard about the chicken wings, I wanted to do is sell
Vagicil
"

QUOTE #2

JOHN:

"I'm already tired of saying vagina . . . so from now on in this Vagicil
commercial, when you hear me say monkey, I really mean monkey, got it?
"

QUOTE #3

MOM:

"So John, you going to tell us why you prefer Vagicil?"

JOHN:

"Ya, because of the chicken wings they gave me."

QUOTE #4

JOHN:

"If your monkey itches, buy some Vagicil"

QUOTE #5
JOHN:

"I am done, that was perfect, wheres my chicken wings, I want my wings
dammit!"

MAD TV can be a bit crude, but you cannot deny that there were chicken wings in this. I would do a commercial for chicken wings.

Unwrapped - "Full of Flavor" ~ CWOS review

Another exciting edition of the Chicken Wings on Screen!

If I'm home on weekday, I usually have the Food Network (Canada) on. A lot of the time its just background noise depending on the show. Unwrapped is one of those shows. Several years ago I did a post on an episode of Marc Summers show, the precursor to CWOS. Well today while I was doing some cleaning, the word "Buffalo" and "Hot Wing" came up on Unwrapped, and I dropped everything and headed to the screen. The episode was "Full of Flavor" which is pretty self explanatory.

In the U.S. there's a popcorn company called Dale & Thomas Popcorn and according to the episode, they have, possibly the world's first popcorn chef working for them: Ed Doyle. He created a popcorn flavour known as "Buffalo Dale's Hot Wing Popcorn." Now chicken wing popcorn is nothing new to the Wing King (see Kernals review), but Dale did some interesting research:

A few observations from the above video from the Dale & Thomas website:

Take 1: A hot wing, not a Buffalo Wing (you can tell from the breading).

Take 7: Um, that's not a wing at all. That's why you might be having some trouble.

Take 15: See, we have the same problem. That's not a wing.

Take 23: Correct me if I'm wrong, but your standing in front of Cheers. Cheers is in Boston. Does Boston know how to make good wings? Did Cheers ever serve food, let alone wings? To be fair, you, Chef Ed, did say "finally, the real taste of Buffalo Wings" but it helps if you actually try Buffalo Wings. Cute video though. But it makes me question if your popcorn actually captures the right flavour.

But let's see how you do it:

  • ED: "Very secret Buffalo Spices" - I want to know the secret
  • ED: "Different chilies; We use vinegar in there; Some garlic." - oh, thanks for the secret. Good flavours in there so far.
  • Marc adds "And what are hot wings, without the blue cheese?" - that's right. Ottawa, pay attention. Blue Cheese, not sour cream.
  • ED: "We make it with real blue cheese" - Good.
  • Then they combine the two flavours together so you get Hot Wing and Blue Cheese.
  • ED: "We've been trying to figure out how to get celery in there, but you know, we haven't got that quite yet" - Liar. I don't think you have. I would try celery salt.

So despite my jests, this looks really tasty. And I would love to try it.

Oh wait, I can't.

Why?

Baaahhhh! On vacation? You tell that SOB flavour to get back to work! And no I won't enjoy Blue Ribbon Chili and Sour Cream instead. This is Lord of the Wings, not Lord of the Chili and Sour Cream Popcorn! That's way too long to put as a blog name.

Oh well, it was interesting videos anyway. Now I'm hungry for chicken wing popcorn. Or just chicken wings. Or even popcorn. Damn you Food Network, always makin' me hungry.

The Simpsons - "All's Fair in Oven War" ~ CWOS review

Another exciting edition of the Chicken Wings on Screen!

The 5:00pm CBC showing of the Simpsons has been a tradition of mine for, well over 10 years. And just 1/2 an hour ago was no different. What was different was a focus on chicken wings in today's episode.

The Episode "All's Fair in Oven War" has Marge doing some baking:

"Homer buys Marge a new kitchen, and Marge likes cooking in the new kitchen so much she attends the Ovenfresh Bakeoff"*

Basically, the first thing that Marge makes in her new kitchen for a church pot luck is her own Buffalo Wasabi Wings (NOTE: I could only find this clip on a Russian Youtube type site. The English can be heard under the Russian translation, sort of. Sorry. Go between about the 5:32 mark until the 6:45 mark ):

I like how Flanders thought he was Springfield's "Wing Ding King". Mmmm, green Buffalo Wasabi wings. Not hot enough though cuz no one's crying. But maybe I might toy with a recipe like this. Hmmmmmmm . . .

Zantac - SPICY ~ CWOS Reviews

Oooh another CWOS review!

This week is a commercial for ZANTAC, a heartburn treatment. I've been trying to get this commercial since I saw it (and fell in love with it because there are wings in it). Apparantly its Canadian (or at least the dancers are).

Its not particularily funny, but entertaining. LJ said it reminded her of Bollywood movies with all the dancing. I just like the chicken wings. That's how I feel everytime I have good wings. The restaurant looks like a Jack Astor's or a Caseys. I just want to know where it is that "Hot Wings" special is - they look damn good and that's a big basket!

I'll be honest, I've never used Zantac. I'm fortunate that I rarely get heartburn now. I did when I was a teenager and young twenties something fierce, and then I used Pepto Bismal (I was so happy when they came out with Cherry PB). But my body has acclimatized to the heat, and I only hope I never get an ulcer.

BONUS VIDEO

I've added Zantac's other heartburn commercial. It warms my heart when the guy sees everyone and everything he can eat again. The guy in the chicken suit is a Canadian comedian but I just can't remember his name or the shows he was on.

King of Queens - "Furious Gorge" ~ CWOS Reviews

Another exciting edition of the Chicken Wings on Screen!

Tonight I was watching King of Queens. This show is littered with chicken wing references, and that's what really endears me to the show. It's not for everyone, but I like my Doug and Carrie.

The episode I just watched is called "Furious Gorge":

"Forced by Carrie to go to an overeating support group, Doug notices an abusive relationship group—complete with a lush snack table—and joins them instead"

Youtube won't let me embed this video for some reason, but you can check it out HERE. Fast forward to the 2:10 mark and you find Doug eating wings in bed, on his shirt.

CARRIE
"Explain to me what I'm looking at"
DOUG
"Before you judge me, let me walk you through it . . . I settled in and I started eating, but then I realized I didn't have a place for the bones. I didn't want to put them on the sheets, 'cause you made it clear . . . you don't like that. Long story short, I've invented the shirt plate."

Awesome. I have not yet stooped to a shirt plate, but I'm getting ideas! And is it just me or did those wings look good. Dang I want wings now.
